Description

Flowers and plants are in the centre of the photographical  group exhibition ” The Secret Life of Plants”. The caption refers to the same title of the book by Peter Tomkins and Christopher Bird.

This book is about experimental arrangements to understand plants as enliven creatures. It deals with the emotional relations between plants but also about the relationship between mankind and plants in its different  occurences.
To approach this complex theme  photografically means to look at the manifold opportunities and to find each own point of view, to express each own interest of the topic, to find each own way of approaching.

In different artistic ways and individual contemplations  the participants of the course advanced the subject with documental, botanical, emotional and associative consideration .

“Small Wilderness”, “My Soul is a Sea of Blossoms”, “Secret Rulers”, ” The Blue of Home”, “Morphic Resonances”, “Beautiful Dream”, “Green Stuff” are only some of the titles of the photographic works. A kaleidoscope of  fascination of beauty and perishability,  the obvious and the hidden, the botanical precision and the dreaming confusion has been created during the work.

The different concepts of the 20 artists are presented in photobooks, made by the artists themselves. Through them the observer will be drawn into the  intensive experience of the different interpretations of the topic.

The exhibition is the end result of a project course at the Photocentrum of Gilberto-Bosques-Adult-Education-Centre in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Berlin under the direction of Sibylle Hoffmann.
